This cover design was developed as an extension of a children’s board book concept created during the MATS Bootcamp with Zoe Tucker and Lilla Rogers.
The goal was to create a cover that balances visual appeal with clarity, capturing attention while giving both children and parents an immediate understanding of the book’s core feature: a tactile number-tracing experience.
To inform the design, I studied a range of existing board books, analyzing how front covers, back covers, and spines function together. This helped establish a clear framework for hierarchy, readability, and content placement across all three surfaces.
The final design integrates the interactive sliding-disc feature directly into the cover, allowing the functionality of the book to be visible at first glance. Bright, character-led visuals and textured shapes were used to create a playful, tactile feel while maintaining strong shelf presence and legibility.
